what is Pav Bhaji?

Pav Bhaj recipe Comes from State maharashtra,  in mumbai, Pav Bhaji is very famous recipe. Pavy Square shape buttery ,soft & fluffy bread rolls, Bhaji means a vegetable curry made with Vegetables like tomatoes, Capsicum, carrots, peas, potatoes, add cauliflower in vegetables we add spices such as red chilli powder, pav bhaji masala, turmeric powder, salt etc. We mash all vegetables with spices to make bhaji.

Pav Bhaji is like by all age groups, you can found pav bhaji on restaurants & food stalls in India & all over world, pav Bhaji is a famous street food. Pav Bhaji is made on flat tawa ( griddle).

Let’s start making famous street food recipe


To make bhaji

●  4  potatoes Boiled and mashed

●  1  cup green peas Boiled and mashed

●  1  cup cauliflower florets Boiled and mashed

●   1  onion Chopped

●   1  Capsicum chopped

● 1  tomato chopped

●  1  carrot chopped

●  1  cup mix mashed vegetables

( carrot,peas, beans, etc)

●  2  Tablespoon oil

●   3   Tablespoon butter

●   1/2  turmeric powder

●   2  tsp red chilli powder

●   2  Tablespoon pav bhaji masala

●   2-3 green chilies chopped

●  5_6 garlic cloves minced

●   2 inch ginger minced

●   salt as required

●  water as required

To serve

10_12  pav bhaji

Butter for roasting

Chopped onion ( garnish)

Lemon wedge ( garnish)

Coriander leaves (garnish)


1. Take a pan add oil put on flame

2. When oil become hot add ginger and garlic saute it

3.  Than add onion when onion change its color add green chilies & Capsicum saute it.

4. After that add tomatoes, when tomatoes become soft

5.  Add red chilli powder turmeric powder & pav bhaji masala mix well

6. Now add boiled and mashed cauliflower, green peas, potatoes, mix vegetables & salt again mix well

7. Add little water and mash all ingredients with potato masher

8. Cook this 10-15 minutes on low flame add water to adjust consistency

9. Bhaji is cooking now we prepare buns

10. Slit the buns horizontally add butter in buns

11. Take tawa put on flame add butter on tawa then slit butter bun

12. Toast it all sides when pav turn golden brown remove it in a serving plate

13. When bhaji is cooked turn off flame

14. Add butter on top of bhaji

15. Garnish with onion Chopped, lemon wedges & coriander leaves

16. Pav Bhaji is ready serve it.

Pav Bhaji masala

Let’s start making pav bhaji masala at home


●  2  nutmeg

● 2 mace

● 4 bay leaf

● 8_10  green cardamom pods

●  8_10 cloves

●  cinnamon stick 2(inch)

● 2  Tablespoon turmeric powder

●  2  Tablespoon red chilli powder

●  Tablespoon dried pomegranate seeds


●  2  Tablespoon dry Mango powder               (amchur)

●   2 Tablespoon black pepper corners

●  2  Tablespoon fennel seeds

●  4 Tablespoon cumin seeds

●  6  Tablespoon coriander seeds


1. First of all take a pan add coriander seeds, Cumin Seeds, fennel seeds, black pepper corn, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, bay leaves, mace & nutmeg

2. Put on flame dry roast it

3.  After that turn off

4.  Let the roasted whole masala coll down

5. When it become cool Add it in a mixture jar and grind it

6. Add ground fine paste in a air tight container

7.  Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, dry Mango powder, dried pomegranate seeds mix well

8. Pav Bhaji masala is ready

9. Cover with lid ( put bhaji masala in air tight container)

10. You can use this pav  bhaji masala in pav bhaji or any other Currys

11. Adjust spices as per your preferences

12. Homemade pav bhaji masala is ready.

Instant Pot Pav Bhaji

Let’s start making pav bhaji in instant pot


●  4  medium potatoes (Boiled and mashed)

●  1  cup peas (Boiled and mashed)

●  1 cup cauliflower (Boiled and mashed )

●  1 onion Chopped

●  2 tomatoes chopped

●  1 carrot chopped

●  1 Capsicum chopped

●  1 cup mix vegetables Boiled and mashed

(Carrot, peas, beans etc)

●  1  inch ginger minced

●   5_6 garlic cloves minced

●  2 Tablespoon oil

●  water as required

●  4  Tablespoon butter

●  salt as required

●   1/2  tsp turmeric powder

●   tsp red chilli powder

●   3_4 Green chilies chopped

●  4  Tablespoon pav bhaji masala

To serve

10-15 pav  buns

1. First of all take instant pot  put on flame & on saute mode

2.  Than add oil & butter in pot

3.  When butter start melting add ginger garlic minced

4. Now add chopped onion when onion change its color

5. Add tomatoes cook it until tomatoes become soft

6. Now add pav bhaji masala, red chilli powder, turmeric powder mix well

7. Now add boiled and mashed mixed vegetables green peas, cauliflower, potatoes mix well

8. Add salt and water to adjust consistency

9. Put lid on instant pot. Put vent on sealing position

10. Next cancel the saute mode & select “pressure ” cook  mode

11. Cook it 5_6 minutes after that put it for a natural pressure release (NPR) for 5 minutes

12. Next remove the lid mix well

13. Now we make pav for this take tawa

14. Add butter, slit pav horizontally and add butter inside pav

15. Now add pav on tawa roast it both side with butter

16. When pav became golden brown remove it from tawa

17. When bhaji cooked turn off flame instant pot

18. Add butter on  bhaji add chopped onion coriander leaves & lemon wedge as garnish

19. Pav Bhaji is ready serve hot

20. You can adjust spices as per your preferences

Pav Bhaji Side Dishes

Let’s start making side dishes of pav bhaji

khajur limli chutney 

LET’S start making khajur imli chutney


●  2 cup dates ( seedless and chopped)

●  1 cup  tamarind pulp

●  2  cup jaggery or brown sugar

●  2 Tablespoon vegetable oil

●  dry ginger powder (pinch)

●  1 tsp salt

●  2 cup water

●  1 tsp black salt

●  1 tsp red chilli powder

●  2  tsp red chilli powder


1. take  a sauce pan put on flame add vegetables oil add dates saute it

2. Then add tamarind pulp mix well

3. Add water then add brown sugar or jaggery mix well

4. Cook it on  low flame when jaggery dissolve add cumin powder,red chilli powder, black salt, salt, dry ginger powder mix well

5. When chutney reaches your desired consistency turn off flame

6. When the chutney became cool Add it in  blender jar and grind it

7. Transfer the ground chutney in air tight container

8. Put container in refrigerator. You can use this chutney upto two weeks.

2) Plain yogurt :whisk yogurt add salt &Serve this with pav bhaji if bhaji is spicy

3) salad: cut cucumber, onion, tomatoes & coriander leaves add salt & black pepper powder on top enjoy with pav bhaji.

4) sev: sev is one type of namkeen you can add it on top of pav bhaji as garnish

5) Tamarind chutney: Let’s start making tamarind chutney


2  cup tamarind pulp,  2 pinch of dry ginger powder,  1  tsp salt,  1 tsp black salt,  1  tsp red chilli powder, 2 tsp Roasted cumin powder.


1. Take a sauce pan put on low flame add oil and tamarind pulp & water mix well

2. Next add jaggery or brown sugar mix well

3. When jaggery dissolve add dry ginger powder, salt, Black salt, red chilli powder, Roasted cumin powder mix well

4. When chutney reaches your desired consistency turn off flame

5. Let the chutney cool down after that add it in blender & grind it

6. Add ground chutney in air tight container

7. Put air tight container in refrigerator you can use this chutney upto few weeks.
