Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe

Ingredients:

• 2 cups heavy cream
• 1 cup whole milk
• 3/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 4 large egg yolks
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• Pinch of salt
• Optional: chocolate chips or chopped chocolate for added texture

Instructions:

1. In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it begins to steam but not boil. Remove from heat.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks until smooth. Slowly pour about 1/2 cup of the warm cream mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
3. Gradually whisk the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining cream mixture. Place the saucepan back on the stove over medium heat.
4. Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Do not let it boil.
5. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl to remove any lumps.
6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
7. Once chilled, pour the custard into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
8. If desired, stir in chocolate chips or chopped chocolate during the last few minutes of churning for added texture.
9. Transfer the ice cream to a freezer-safe container, cover, and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
10. Scoop and enjoy your delicious homemade chocolate ice cream.
