What is Lassi?

Lassi is a popular, traditional, yogurt-based drink that originates from the Indian subcontinent. Indian Lassi is a blend of yogurt, water or milk, spices, and/or fruit.

Plain sweet lassi and salt lassi (without fruits) are the most popular in India. On the other hand, Mango lassi is one of the most popular drinks served in restaurants in the USA.

What is Mango Lassi?

Mango lassi is a yogurt-based drink, made from yogurt, milk, mango pulp (fresh, frozen, or canned mango pulp), sugar, and flavored with cardamom. Also known as Indian Mango Smoothie.

Restaurants generally use canned mango pulp to prepare lassi. When mangoes are in season, I make them with fresh pulp. Otherwise, I use canned mango pulp at home to get restaurant quality. You can use leftover mango lassi to make mango lassi popsicles. Do try this for your next potluck or gathering.

Ingredients:

2 ripe mangoes, peeled and chopped

1 cup plain yogurt

1/2 cup milk

4-5 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom (optional)

Ice cubes (optional)

Saffron strands for garnish (optional)

Chopped pistachios or almonds for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Start by preparing the mangoes. Peel and chop them into small pieces.

Make sure to use ripe mangoes for the best flavor.

In a blender, add the chopped mangoes, plain yogurt, milk, sugar, and ground cardamom if using.

You can adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preference.

Blend the ingredients until smooth and creamy. If you prefer a thicker lassi, you can add less milk.

If you like it thinner, you can add more milk.

Once the lassi is blended to your desired consistency, taste it and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more sugar.

If you prefer your lassi chilled, you can add a few ice cubes to the blender and blend until they are crushed and incorporated into the lassi.

Pour the mango lassi into serving glasses.

Optionally, garnish each glass with a few strands of saffron for a beautiful presentation and added flavor.

You can also sprinkle some chopped pistachios or almonds on top for a crunchy texture and extra flavor.

Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing restaurant-style mango lassi!

Feel free to adjust the ingredients according to your taste preferences and enjoy this delicious drink.
