What is uttapam?

Uttapam is a very famous South Indian recipe that is similar to pancake or dosa ,it is made with rice and black lentils fermented batter. You can add topping on uttapam like green chilies,coriander leaves, tomatoes, onions Chopped. Uttapam is eat as a brunch or breakfast recipe,you can serve this dish with sambar, chutney.

Onion Uttapam Recipe

Easy method of making uttapam recipes

Let’s start making onion uttapam recipe in easy

  • 4 Cup Dosa batter (Lentil and rice fermented batter )
  • 2 Onion
  • 4-5 Green
  • Salt
  • Oil or ghee (For cooking )
  • Coriander leaves (Chopped )
  1. First of all take a non sticky pan put on flame
  2. Add salt in batter mix well
  3. Add oil when oil become hot add dosa batter with big spoon.
  4. Immediately spread it in circular motion
  5. Now we topping green chilies, onion and coriander leaves on uttapam
  6. Add some oil to cook
  7. When uttapam base became golden brown flip it
  8. Cook another side
  9. When cooked both side then remove uttapam & make another.
  10. Onion uttapam is ready to serve
  11. Serve, it with sambar or any chutney.

Rava uttapam

Let’s start making Rava uttapam recipe.

Ingredients

1/2     tsp grated ginger

2    cup rava or suji

1/2    cup yogurt ( curd)

1/2   cup tomatoes chopped

1/2    cup onions Chopped

4      Tablespoon capsicum chopped

2      Tablespoon greated carrot

4    Tablespoon coriander leaves Chopped

2   green chilies chopped

Instructions

Take a mixing bowl add Rava & curd mix well

Add water & make a dosa batter

Keep aside for 20_25 minutes

Take rava batter add  salt, grated ginger, tomatoes, onion ,capsicum, carrot ,green chilies and coriander leaves mix well.

Now take non sticky  pan or dosa pan

Put on flame when pan become hot add big full spoon dosa batter in center of pan

And immediately spread it in circular shape

When uttapam cook both side ,remove it in a plate.

Rava uttapam is ready. Serve with any chutney.

Masala uttapam recipe

Let’s start making Masala uttapam recipe

Ingredients

2  cup dosa batter ( Lentil and rice fermented batter)

Oil or butter for cooking

Salt as required

4    Tablespoon chopped coriander leaves

4-5   Green chilies chopped

1/2    cup carrot (grated)

1/2    cup capsicum chopped

1/2   cup tomatoes chopped

1/2    cup onion chopped

To make masala topping

1   tsp cumin seed

1   tsp mustard seeds

2   Tablespoon oil

1     cup onion chopped

1   cup tomatoes chopped

Salt as required, coriander leaves Chopped

Instructions

Take a pan put on flame when pan become hot add oil after that add cumin seed & mustard seeds saute it

Than add chopped onion when onion change it’s color add tomatoes & salt.

When tomatoes mashed or cooked well add coriander leaves & keep aside this topping masala.

Now we take a separate large mixing bowl add dosa batter, green chilies, carrots, capsicum, tomatoes, onion, coriander leaves & salt mix well.

Now take dosa pan or non sticky pan put on flame take big spoonful dosa batter mixture and add it on pan.

Immediately spread this on pan  in circular motion.

Add some oil to cook uttapam on edges or corners of uttapam

When uttapam start cooking from base add cooked topping on it.

Press the topping to stick to uttapam.

Cooked on both sides remove in plate.

Masala uttapam is ready.

Serve this masala uttapam with chutney.

Calories in uttapam

Uttapam is made with rice & Lentil fermented batter, it is South Indian famous recipe.The correct number of calories in uttapam will be different on how we make uttapam,  ingredients ( which ingredients) we are using.

In general in plain uttapam without any topping calories may be 150 to 200 ( this can be change due to oil we are using &  batter  quantity) If you add topping then calories will increase. If you want to know exact calories it’s best to refer nutritional information given by bread or restaurant or make specific recipe.

Spinach uttapam recipe

Let’s start making Spinach uttapam recipe

Ingredients

2    cup dosa batter ( Lentil and rice fermented batter)

2   cup spinach chopped

Oil as required

Salt as required

2    Onion Chopped

3_4    Green chilies chopped

1/2    tsp cumin seed

Instructions

First of all take a large mixing bowl

Add dosa batter, spinach, onion, green chilies, cumin seeds and salt mix well

Spinach uttapam batter is ready

Take a non sticky pan or dosa pan Put on flame

First take a big full spoonful batter and add it on center of pan

Immediately spread it in a circular motion

Add oil on corners of uttapam to cook uttapam

Cook both side of uttapam

When uttapam cooks both side

Remove in a plate & make another

Spinach uttapam is ready to serve

Serve with tomato chutney, coconut chutney or any other chutney

Paneer uttapam recipe

Let’s start making paneer uttapam

Ingredients

1  cup paneer ( crumbled)

2   cup dosa batter (fermented Lentil and rice batter

Oil or butter as required

Salt as required Coriander leaves Chopped

4-5 Green chilies chopped

2   small onion Chopped

Instructions

First of all take mixing bowl add dosa batter & salt mix well

Now take non sticky pan or dosa pan Put on flame

When pan start heating add dosa batter with help of big spoonful batter

Add it in center of dosa pan

Immediately spread it in circular motion

Add oil on corners of uttapam

When uttapam start cooking add paneer ( crumbled),coriander leaves, green chilies and onion.

Press all ingredients on uttapam to stick

Flip & cook another side

When uttapam cooks both side

Then remove it in plate

Serve with any chutney you want

Cheese uttapam recipe

Let’s start making cheese uttapam recipe

Ingredients

Oil or butter as required

Salt as required

3_4 Green chilies chopped

2  capsicum chopped

2  tomatoes chopped

2  onion Chopped

2   cup dosa batter ( fermented Lentil and rice batter)

1   cup grated cheese

Instructions

First of all take a mixing bowl add dosa batter and salt mix well

Now take a non sticky pan or dosa pan Put on flame

When pan become hot

Take big spoonful dosa batter

Add in center of pan Immediately spread it in circular motion

Add oil on corners of uttapam

Add green chilies, capsicum, tomatoes, onion & greated cheese

Press all ingredients on uttapam

Make sure all ingredients stick to uttapam

Turn another side cook it

When uttapam cooks both side

Remove it in a plate

Serve with tomato chutney or coconut chutney.

Mix vegetables uttapam

Let’s start making mix vegetables uttapam

Ingredients

1  cup dosa batter ( Lentil and rice fermented batter)

1/2   cup chopped mix vegetables ( cabbage, tomatoes, carrot,capsicum, onion etc)

2   green chilies chopped

Coriander leaves Chopped

Salt as required

Oil or butter for cooking

1   tsp red chilli powder

Instructions

Take a bowl add dosa batter and salt mix well

Now take a pan add oil add mixed vegetables, green chilies, coriander leaves  saute it

Add salt & red chilli powder cover it & cook until vegetables become soft  then turn off flame.

Take a non sticky pan or dosa pan Put on flame.

Add dosa batter in center of pan with help of big spoon

Immediately spread it in circular shape

Add oil on corners of uttapam

Now add cooked vegetable press it on uttapam

Make sure vegetables stick to uttapam

Cook both sides

When uttapam cooks both side

Remove it in a plate and make another with same process

Serve vegetables uttapam with any chutney.
