What is Vada pav?

Vada pav is a very famous street food, itcomes form Maharashtra state of India, it’s connected particularly with Mumbai city. Pav is small bun ,vada is sandwich between small bun. Vada have spices such as ginger, garlic, turmeric, green chilies & mustard seeds & mashed potatoes all mixture is coated with chickpea flour & then deep – fry  until golden. It’s a favorite street food in Mumbai & other part of India.

Vada pav Recipe

Easy method of vada pav recipe

  • 2 Cup Gram flour
  • 1 Tsp Baking
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric
  • Water ( as required
  • Salt( as required) (To assemble vada pav )
  • 10-12 Pav ( Indian bread)
  • Tamarind chutney
  • Dry garlic chutney
  • Butter ( as required


  • Green chutney ( mint & coriander chutney (For potato filling )
  • 8 Medium potatoes
  • 2 Tsp Cumin
  • 2 Tsp Red chillies
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric
  • 2 Tsp Ginger
  • 4-5 Green chilies (chopped
  • 12-15 Curry Leaves
  • Coriander
  1. Take potatoes peel & Boil them, after Boil mash them & keep aside.
  2. Take a pan put on flame add oil add cumin seeds & mustard seeds saute it.
  3. Add green chilies, curry leaves & ginger garlic paste saute it.
  4. After 1 min add red chilli powder, turmeric powder & salt mix well.
  5. Now add mashed potatoes in pan mix well cook for 5 min add coriander leaves. Turn off flame &keep aside.
  6. Take a mixing bowl add gram flour, turmeric powder, salt & baking soda make thick batter by adding water.
  7. Now take a kauai or frying pan for deep frying.
  8. Take a small portion of potato mixture, make it round ball.
  9. Now next dip round potato ball into gram flour batter ,coat all side carefully.
  10. Put coated ball in hote oil carefully.
  11. Turn it & fry golden brown.
  12. Remove from oil & drain its oil by putting on paper.
  13. Now take a pav slit it horizontally add tamarind chutney one side & green chutney one-sided
  14. Add some garlic chutney now add fried potato balls in center of pav & press it.
  15. Take a pan add some butter add vada pav & toast it both sides until it become crispy.
  16. Serve hot you can Serve vada pav with fried green chilies or chutney or tea.

Dahi vada Recipe

Let’s start making dahi vada

2    cup urad dal ( split black gram)

2    tablespoon rice flour

Salt (as required)

1    cumin seeds

1    small onion Chopped

1/2   baking soda

Coriander leaves Chopped

4     cup yogurt ( curd)

1      tsp   Roasted cumin seed powder

2     tsp   red chilli powder

Tamarind chutney ( garnish)

Green chutney  ( garnish)


First wash split black gram in running water & soak it for minimum 2 hours.

Then after 2 hours drain water & grind it.

Transfer the ground paste in mixing bowl add rice flour, salt, cumin seeds, chopped onion, baking soda & coriander leaves.

mix well  until all ingredients mix well.

Take frying pan add oil to deep fry now make vada shape first wet hand Take a medium size paste round it and make a hole in center.

Now carefully put vada in frying pan & deep fry it.

When it become golden brown remove it from oil & let cool down.

Now take a lukewarm water and add vadas in water 10-15 minutes.

After that take another bowl add yogurt & whisk it add salt & roast cumin powder mix well.

Now take serving dish add vadas ( remove from water) ,on top of vada add whisked yogurt.

Add tamarind chutney & geen chutney for garnish you can also add red chilli powder adjust the quantity of yogurt of as per your preferences.

Add coriander leaves & Serve it.

Sabudana vada Recipe


2    cup tapioca pearls ( sabudana)

4    tablespoon roasted peanut crushed

4    medium size potatoes (Boiled &  mashed)

2    tsp  cumin seed

4    green chilies ( chopped)

2     tsp grated ginger

Coriander leaves

Salt as required

Oil ( for  frying)


First wash sabudana in running water & soak it for 5-6  hours or you can soak overnight

After that take a mixing bowl add sabudana ( drain water) ,crushed peanut, mashed potatoes, coriander leaves, green chilies, cumin seeds, grated ginger & salt mix well & make dough.

Divide the dough in small balls, now flat it & make hole in middle like vada.

Take a frying pan put on flame add oil for deep frying when oil become hot add vad carefully.

Fry it  both side when it become golden brown remove from oil.

Please vada on paper or kitchen towel to remove excess oil.

Sabudana VADA is ready serve it with tamarind chutney, green chutney & yogurt.

1/2     cup yogurt

1           tsp grated ginger

1            tsp  cumin seed

Take a mixing bowl add suji ,yogurt, onion  grated ginger, green chilies, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, salt mix it vary well.

Rest it  for 20_25  min.

After that make vada shape.

Take a kadai for deep frying add oil turn on flame when oil become hot fry vadas.

When vada turn golden brown remove from oil.

Serve suji vada with chutney.

Masala vada Recipe.

Let’s start making Masala vada


2     cup  split chickpeas ( Chana dal)

2      medium size onion Chopped

3-6     green chilies chopped

2          tablespoon grated ginger

2         tsp cumin seed

2          fennel seeds

Coriander leaves

Oil for deep frying

Salt as required


First wash split chickpeas then soak it for 2 hours.

Next  drain  water  from   chickpeas ,take 2 table spoon of  chickpeas & keep aside.

Next take a grinder jar add soaked chanadal  grind it  & make a paste.

Now take a mixing bowl add ground Chana dal paste,add 2 tablespoon Chana dal (soaked) ,add onion green chilies, coriander leaves, ginger,   cumin seeds, fennel seeds,   & salt mix it vary well.

Take a frying pan to deep fry vadas when oil become hot, take a  small ball of Chana dal mixture make flat round shape vada hole in center ( make vada shape).

Carefully add in hot oil fry both side when it  turn golden brown remove from oil.

Masala vada is ready.
